When using Firefox, i find that I am often logged out of the website I am logged into whereas when using Google Chrome, I am not. Any ideas why?
Here are some common reasons why Firefox might log you out of websites more frequently than Google Chrome:
-
Cookie Settings (this didn't work)
Firefox may be set to clear cookies or site data automatically when you close the browser.- Go to Menu (☰) > Settings.
- Navigate to Privacy & Security.
- Under Cookies and Site Data, check if "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" is enabled. Disable it or add exceptions for specific sites.
-
Strict Privacy Settings (this didn't work)
Firefox's privacy mode may block certain cookies or trackers essential for maintaining login sessions.- Go to Menu (☰) > Settings.
- Under Privacy & Security, find the Enhanced Tracking Protection section.
- Switch to "Standard" mode or add exceptions for affected sites.
-
Extensions or Add-ons
Privacy-focused extensions like ad blockers or cookie managers might interfere with session cookies.- Open Firefox in Safe Mode: Menu (☰) > Help > Troubleshoot Mode.
- Log into a website and see if the issue persists.
- If resolved, review installed add-ons to identify the culprit.
-
Corrupted Profile
A corrupted Firefox profile can cause unusual behavior, including login issues.- Create a new profile: Menu (☰) > Help > More Troubleshooting Information > Profile Folder > Create New Profile.
- Log into a website using the new profile and check if the issue continues.
-
Updates and Compatibility
Ensure Firefox is up to date. Older versions may have bugs or compatibility issues.- Go to Menu (☰) > Help > About Firefox.
- Check for updates and restart if needed.
-
Browser Cache
A corrupted cache might interfere with session persistence. Clear it:- Go to Menu (☰) > Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Under Cookies and Site Data, click "Clear Data".
- Select "Cached Web Content" and click Clear.
-
Difference in Default Session Behavior
Chrome and Firefox handle session cookies differently. If the issue is site-specific, it might relate to how the site handles sessions with these browsers.
